The movie Objectified was really interesting. I enjoy listening to professionals in the fields of graphic/ industrial arts speaking of their successes and failures, their hopes and dreams and their interesting thoughts about their work. I personally am confused. One of the designers said that we should be working towards designing the perfect item. If we design a perfect item, one that has lasting power, and fits all the elements of good design, then you won't ever need to create another one of those. For example the perfectly designed toothbrush; everyone would have it, no one else would ever have a job designing toothbrushes. Think if that happened to every in our daily lives? Wouldn't designers not want to ever create the perfect anything?
As a designer, i found the information very valuable when it comes to the trends of good design, what is good design and how to balance between design and functionality. I will always remember that simpler is better and that you don't want the design to confuse the user because the designer wanted to make it too fancy. The movie made me think about what I am going to be doing for a living. Do I want to design mass manufactured products? Do I want to work for a large corporation? Rather, do I want to work in a small business, designing and creating more unique items.
